Garage Sale is ON!

ATTENTION FRIENDS!!!
We WILL be having a Garage Sale in the Fall. The date of the sale will be
October 3 & 4
at Tracey's house, as usual.
There was way too much interest to not hold the sale, so please clean out your closets and send stuff my way. As always, I will be available to come get items, just give me a call or send an email to the gmail address on the top right of the blog page.

If you have not registered at www.cobbrelay.org please do so asap. You do not need to pay the money now and it only takes a few minutes of your time. If you are uncomfortable paying with a credit card online, or just want to wait to pay, you may give me the $5 when you see me. Remember, if you register by October 31st you are in the drawing from the ACS for two round trip tickets on Airtran.

Also, if you register by December 15th, you will guarantee your shirt size for the Friends for LIFE annual tee shirt. We are working on the design now and want to have them ordered by the first of the year. Ordering the shirts, as well extra shirts for those who have not registered yet for the team, comes out of the Team Captain's pockets so please be aware of this. Ordering early will enable us to wear them at the FFL team fundraisers in the Spring as well as to the night of Relay.

2008-2009 Transition

Hi team, it's your captain Tracey. Yes, I took over the team again, and yes I am still the chair of Cobb County. Christie Blair will still be my co-captain, but she has three young ones involved with sports and school--and is also on steering committee with me--so her involvement is as crazy as mine. If you would like to help us as a co-captain, please let me know.

I have quite a bit to discuss with you so listen carefully. :)

1) I will be using the official ACS website to send a majority of the emails (like I am doing today), NOT the Yahoo! account that I have used in the past. This format is MUCH easier for me to use and this year I need all the help I can get. Please visit the FFL blog at http://friendsforliferelay.blogspot.com/ I will post items here after I have sent emails.

2) There will be no October garage sale. I have very few items in my garage and there is a wedding in October that requires some attention. For those of you that do not know Jennie, my co-captain in past years, is getting married on 10-11-08. Therefore, I don't think that I will be able to pull it all together. If this is a BIG problem let me know and maybe we can work something out for a November garage sale. Usually it's warm enough so that shouldn't be a problem. Time and need of things to sell is the problem.

3)PLEASE take note that this site (the Cobb Relay 2008 site) will be shutting down and we will have to re-register for the 2009 year. Registration is set to launch the beginning of September so check back in a couple weeks. There will be an early bird registration discount of $5 before kick off in January. Go ahead and sign up ASAP and you can utilize the end of year donations that folks may need for taxes. We also have a continuous giving tool on the website that allows people to donate on a monthly basis with an auto withdraw system. Instead of a one-time $50 gift you may get 12 months at $10...just a thought.

4) If everyone would PLEASE :) send me an email, and let me know if you are planning on returning to FFL, that would be greatly appreciated. We have dates to set for our meetings but I will email you about that at a later date. The meetings will still be here, at my house, so stay tuned. My email address is the same as always, CKN013@yahoo.com

5) On Thursday night, September 4th, Cobb Relay is having a Wrap up-Charge Up celebration to honor top participants/teams from last year and get us geared up for this coming year. All team members are invited to attend. Please let me know if you can make it when you RSVP to me about your plans to join/not re-join FFL.

As a team we were shy of $60,000 by a couple hundred bucks...close enough in my opinion! Great work team!!! Cobb County stands at $990,000.00 as of this morning. I would think we are going to still be considered a million dollar Relay-and you ALL played a very important role in achieving that goal. Thank you so much for your past and, HOPEFULLY, future involvement in FFL.

Thank you so much!

Silent Auction Thursday Night!

So today marks 50 days until Relay for Life 2008!! I would like to personally invite you to the Silent Auction next Thursday, March 27 from 6 to 8 pm. The auction will be held at Roswell Street Baptist Church (774 Roswell Street in Marietta) in the Vision Center. We have a wonderful assortment of auction items from Air Tran, Stone Mountain, Woodmont Golf Club, the Atlanta Symphony, Boutier Winery, the Whitlock Inn, Tennessee Aquarium, and more. We hope you'll attend and spread the word to your friends and family, including those who are not already a part of Relay. The tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. The team that brings in the most people to the auction will receive $1,000.00 to their team funds...that's double for us so bring your neighbors and your friends! Our very own Christie Blair has been in charge of the event so come out and see what all she has been able to put together. Chick-fil-a provided the food and there are hundreds of items to bid on, all for a great cause!

Friends for LIFE Shirts

Before we begin, I want to clarify the 2 different shirts that we are ordering now. One is just for our team members and the other is for a fundraiser...they are 2 different designs!
  1. team shirts - these are the underdog shirts that you will purchase to wear to fundraisers and the night of Relay. The cost is $12.
  2. fundraiser shirts - this is the shirts that we are giving to people if they commit to a $20 donation.

Okay, at our first meeting we asked everyone to commit to getting donations for 10 shirts. This would be a quick and easy way for you to raise $200. We would like to pre-sale the shirts so that we know how many shirts we need and also which sizes. If you would like to commit to this fundraiser, please print out the pre-sale form (attached) and get started!
The deadline for the pre-sales is March 26th. This gives you 2 weeks to find 10 people to give you donations. We need to keep the time frame short so that the people who order the shirts do not have to wait too long to receive them.
Here are some thoughts on this fundraiser:
  • I would suggest that you word it like this: "If you make a donation of $20, you will receive a FREE t-shirt". Instead of asking them to buy a $20 t-shirt.
  • Some teammates are suggesting a donation of $25 if they would like for it to be tax deductible.
  • Long sleeve shirts are available for $2 more.
  • If they pay by check, just put it in your envelope and hang on to it.
  • It they pay by cash and it is $25 or more, please fill out a cash receipt so that we have records for tax purposes. If it is $20, just put it in your envelope and hang on to it...you don't need a receipt.
  • If they want to pay by credit card, you can give them a link to your personal fundraising page. Please make sure you receive their payment before we order their shirt!
  • You will receive 100% of what you raise. If you get $200 in donations, all $200 will go towards your fundraising goal!!
  • Feel free to "sell" more than 10 shirts!!
I have attached a file of the design will look like so that you can show people. The image with the design on the shirt is not 100% accurate, I just used that to give you an idea. The design will probably be a little larger across the chest.
Please reply back if you plan on participating in this fundraiser. I have the list of names from the first meeting and would love to have the WHOLE team on the list!! Be creative! Think of co-workers, friends from church, family members...everyone LOVES t-shirts!
